Sportive elegance, spectacular choreographies and top-class performances – these are the attributes applying to the Rhythmic Gymnastics championship for groups which the public may witness in the Theater am Marientor on May 22 and 23, 2004. The German Rhythmic Gymnastics Open 2004, a World Series competition of the International Gymnastics Federation FIG, will be attended by the world’s best athletes.
Apart from the World Champion and Olympic favourite Russia, the vice champion White Russia and number three of the world championship Bulgaria are also coming. Spectacular presentations will be seen from the Italian, Brazilian and Chinese ladies, too. They will be joined by: groups from Portugal and Switzerland.
Rhythmic Gymnastic is often considered the most „female sport“ and the inventive choreography of the exercises is surprising even when looking at them several times. A group consists of 5 gymnasts each who perform two exercises – one with 5 ribbons and one with 3 hoops and 2 balls. On Saturday, May 22, the All Around Competition will take place and on Sunday, May 23, the two Finals.
The tournament will be organized by the Regional Rhenania Gymnastics Federation (RTB) with the support of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) and the Organizing Committee of the World Games 2005 in Duisburg.
During the international tournament the German Girls Championship of Rhythmic Gymnastics will also take place which is scheduled before the individual competitions.
