Victory Ceremony Finals Ribbons
All in all three gold medals and the highest scores in all of their exercises – that is the result for World Champion and Olympic favourite Russia at the German Open 2004 in the Theatre at Marientor, Duisburg.
Already been unbeaten on Saturday in the finals with ribbons and hoops/balls with a score of 51.0 Points – 2.6 Points ahead of Italy and third placed Belarus – the Russian gymnasts show themselves well prepared for the Olympics in Athens 2004, where the gold medal can only be gained by beating the outstanding performances on Sunday at the separate finals with ribbons and hoops/balls.
Formed by Valentina Ivanitskaya and Tatiana Vasilyeva to perfection the 5 girls topped their own results to get a tournament high of 25.8 Points with hoops and balls, followed by Belarus with 24.9 and Italy’s 24.1 Points.
The finals with ribbons gave them a 25.75 in the lead, second placed Italy 24.1 and Belarus 22.85 points.

4th Spain (22.2 and 21.0)
5th Switzerland (18.55 and 19.6)
6th South Korea (17.25 and 19.05)
7th Bremen representing Germany (15.95 and 17.85)
The first international appearance of an Indian group was honoured with a big applause from the audience (550 overall) and 7.7 Points for their single performance with hoops and balls.
Unfortunately Brasil could not participate due to an injury of one of their gymnasts.
