To inform, to present and to make Duisburg better-known as the host of the World Games 2005: This was the intention the World Games 2005 Ltd. had when inviting local and national journalists to Duisburg exactly 365 days before the opening ceremony. And in spite of the rather poor weather – the great press event on July 14th and 15th was a complete success!
On the agenda there were 22 variegated hours full of
Duisburg and its preparations for the World Games 2005. After a short welcome by CEO Gerd Bildau in the hotel Landhaus Milser, which was accomodation to the representatives of the press and will also be head quarters to the athletes and officials next year, sportiness was demanded. An indoor climbing wall gave the journalists and the employees of the World Games 2005 Ltd. the chance to proof their skills and energy.
Afterwards there was not much time for recovery, as after a short return to the hotel everyone was taken to the Alltours Plaza in the Innenhafen Area. There, mayoress Bärbel Zieling joined the group in order to present the city’s progress in preparing next year’s huge event. As a representative of the IWGA president Ron Froehlich was present, and he seemed to be quite content with the host of the next World Games edition, too. As a part of the show-programme, female Sumo-wrestlers as well as Ju-Jitsu fighters presented their sports to the observers and made everyone look forward to the competitions next year.
The next day the group got the chance to examine the venues in the Landschaftspark Nord, the Regattabahn and also the Wedau Stadion, which is presently under construction. This tour was meant to give the journalists an idea of the stage of affairs concerning the preparations for the World Games 2005. After having lunch together the meeting was eventually finished.
The feedback of either party was absolutely positive!
