  Bottrop
Volleyball, badminton, billiards, gliding and asian martial arts - a small selection of the 60 kinds of sports enjoyed by over 32,000 active sporting enthusiasts in Bottrop in their free time. Bottrop is not only famous for centres for the promotion of these sports and its federal league clubs, it is also worth a visit for the other leisure facilities on offer: The Film Park Movie World, the Tetrahedron, the Fairy Tale Park Schloss Beck, the Quadrat Museum with the Josef Albers Collection and the Museum for Early and Local History, the nearby recreation areas of the Köllnischer Woods and Kirchheller Heath, the longest indoor ski area in the world planned by Marc Girardelli. The accessibility and excellent transport infrastructure of Bottrop have been particularly attractive to medium-sized companies who in turn have shaped the local economy of this, the smallest city in the Ruhrgebiet (pop.121,000) with many green areas.
