The World Games are an international multi-sports event hosted by the International World Games Association (IWGA), under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Games are held every fourth year, following the year of the Summer Olympics. Although the World Games, just like the Olympics, are an international sports event contested by the top players of the world, it has two significant characteristics. Participating athletes are representatives selected by the International Federation (IF) of each sport, not by their countries, and existing facilities are used as the venues for the Games.
The event consists of official sports and invitational sports selected from those not included in the Olympic Games. At the same time, programs are provided in which the general public can participate, aiming towards the popularization of the respective sports, and exchange between local people and athletes and officials visiting from all over the world.
